Preliminary Phase:
- Meet with Inventors marketing staff for product content, functionality and
general product parameters (special bells and whistles, instruction sheets,
yearly volumes, regional product?, seasonal product?, product market life, etc.)
- Create new product launch team (determining specific engineer’s contributions)
- Research similar products on the market for requirements evaluation
- Research similar products on the market for specifications evaluation
- Research and identify all test specifications
Phase I - Mockup Phase:
- Create Inventors new product concept details
(engineering brainstorm session and sketches)
- Develop 1st turn of 3d Model of Inventors new product
- Develop 1st turn of Inventors new product drawings package
(individual components and assembly drawings)
- Develop 1st turn of Bill of Materials for Inventors new product
(BOM - list of components – comprehensive new product content)
- Develop 1st turn of DFMEA for Inventors new product
(Design Failure Mode Effects & Analysis)
- Fabricate rapid prototyping to mockup the new product concept details
- Assemble and evaluate the Inventors new product mockups
- Develop fixtures and test jigs for mockup testing and evaluation
- Develop 1st turn of test specification schedule to be implemented in Phase III
(determines number prototypes to be built in Phase II)
- Develop 1st turn of PFMEA for the Inventors new product
(Process Failure Mode Effects & Analysis)
- Develop and research initial vendor list for the Inventors new product
(eventual production tooling vendors, component vendors and assemblers)
Design Review I - Release for Phase II:
- Execute an engineering evaluation of the requirements, specifications and
product concept for the Inventors new product - release to Phase II
- Review the DFMEA and PFMEA critical issues
- Create an action item list of recommendations
Phase II - Prototype Phase:
- Develop 2nd turn of 3d Model of Inventors new product
