Made in Mexico is big business in the sister city region. According to a University of Michigan Urban
Planning report, half of Mexico’s taxable revenue is generated from the Maquiladoras and eight to ten billion
dollars worth of goods and services are purchased yearly from El Paso. With these impressive economic
figures and twenty five years of experience, the infrastructure has been created to make Made in Mexico
easy to setup and run.
There are three basic methods of setting up Made in Mexico:
1. Foreign companies (owned within countries other than Mexico) can lease or
purchase manufacturing facilities within certain zones in Mexico and acquire the
permits necessary to conduct business. However, this format means that the foreign
company takes full responsibility for obtaining the necessary permits by hiring its
own lawyers, real-estate agents and others. This method is adopted by seasoned
companies already familiar with the Maquiladoras laws and permits.
2. Foreign companies can contract with a Mexican leasing company to setup and
house their manufacturing lines within a Mexican Industrial Park. It is common
practice for the Mexican leasing company to provide the permits and infrastructure
necessary for the foreign to conduct its manufacturing effectively. The foreign
company provides the managerial staff, but the Mexican leasing company provides for all of the other needs.
3. Foreign companies can contract either with a Mexican company or a U.S. company located in Mexico to
perform the Made in Mexico. Although number three is the simplest format, both number two and three is
likely to be contained within the ACE Inventors Services New Product Launch Program. With ACE Inventors
